This particular variety is an interspecific hybrid. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out.

This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. Royal Frost Birch is a deciduous tree with a distinctive and refined pyramidal form. The peeling white bark is extremely showy and adds significant winter interest. White birch tree bark: Dull white thin bark that exfoliates in papery strips. The pointy leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding dark red in the fall. White birch leaves measure 1.2 to 2.4 (3 6 cm) long and up to 2 (5 cm) wide. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 3 feet from the ground, and should not be planted underneath power lines. Royal Frost Birch will grow to be about 40 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 25 feet.
